About us

our beliefs

The Bible teaches that when one actively believes in Christ, by turning away from sin and being immersed in water, God adds that person to the saved body of Christ (Acts 2:36-41).

Scripture also describes the true church as being “one body” (Ephesians 4:4).  “For in one Spirit we were all baptized into one body” (I Corinthians 12:13).

We believe and teach that the true church consists of every redeemed sinner who has been gracefully added to the one body of Christ through total submission to God’s Word.

Are you part of the one body that Scripture describes?  Do you realize your role in putting Christ to death?  Are you determined to turn away from sin and submit fully to God’s Word?  Are you willing to confess your belief in Jesus Christ as your Savior?  Have you been baptized into water for the forgiveness of your sins?

If not, then you have yet to actively believe.  We know that inactive belief does not lead to salvation, “for even the demons believe” (James 2:19).

If you truly believe the Bible is God’s Message for you, then your attention and submission to that Message is surely crucial!  Only when you submit your life to God will He add you to the church His Son died to redeem and claim. Our prayer is that you will actively believe, becoming part of Christ’s one body!

our worship

It's our desire to worship in harmony with God’s Word.  Visitors are always impressed by the unique beauty of Scriptural worship.

Our purely vocal singing emphasizes the heart, mirroring the careful practice of the early church (Ephesians 5:19).

Our weekly observance of the Lord’s Supper centers hearts and minds on the essence of the Gospel every single Sunday (I Corinthians 11:23-34).

Freewill offerings allow us to contribute to the cause of the Lord’s church without making visitors feel forced to give  (I Corinthians 16:2; II Corinthians 9:7).

Bible classes are offered for all ages and cover a variety of topics.  Children and adults alike will grow as they open God’s Word and interact with others.

We would love for you to come visit us at Skyline Church of Christ!  Our church family finds great strength in diversity and consists of all ages, personalities, talents and professions.  When you visit, you will find friendly Christians engaged in uplifting worship.

Our History

Skyline church of Christ 1937- Present

A handful of faithful Christians came together in the fall of 1937  to establish a New Testament congregation of the Lord’s People.  These members named the congregation the Skyline church of Christ.  Through much labor, the church grew

to become a strong, sound, and vibrant congregation in the community. Many fine preachers “fed the flock” God’s Word throughout the early years, including Charles
Williams, Laverne Franks, Tommy Lawson, Roland Adams, E.R. Bruce, Don Rudd, Paul Sparks and Jimmy Allen.  As the years passed on so did many faithful servants of God.

However, in the early 1990s attendance began to dwindle and soon after the doors would close to the Skyline church of Christ due to lack of membership.  In 1995, Robert Willis, Estelle Goff, and Opal Pearson had a desire to rebuild the congregation.  Services were rescheduled for Sunday afternoons at 2:30 pm and Thursday evenings at 7:00 pm.  For several months the congregation met with many faithful brothers and sisters from neighboring congregations in attendance.  In 1998, Brother Robert Willis sought the help of Brother Troy McNutt.  He requested that he preach at the congregation on a regular basis.  Troy and his family agreed to come and work with the revived Skyline church of Christ and they began their work there in February of 1998. The Skyline congregation continued to meet on Sunday afternoons and Thursday evenings until the beginning of 1999. At that time they began a more active and normal worship schedule meeting twice on Sunday and on Wednesday evenings for bible study.  In January 1999, there were 12 active members.  The small congregation worked diligently to bring the erring back to Christ and to worship God in spirit and in truth.  As a result of their efforts over the next several years, the attendance began to grow rapidly.  As the membership grew so did the need for additional space.  The congregation constructed a new building and on February 12, 2006, the Skyline church of Christ met in the new building with an attendance of 77.

In January 2017, Brother Jonathan Bates and his wife, Paige, came to work with Skyline. Jonathan took on the role of the youth minister and worked hard to keep all youth engaged with the work of the Lord.

In April 2017, Troy resigned from his role as the pulpit minister. His work with the Skyline church of Christ spanned over 19 years. The regenerated congregation is much different today from the one he found in 1998 and the members are forever thankful for his dedication to this congregation.

In August 2017, Brother Norman Maranto and his wife, Joyce,  came to work with the congregation at Skyline. Norman came to us with over 25 years of service in the Lord's church, and after 6 years of being the pulpit minister at Skyline, he retired in 2023. At that time, Jonathan Bates became the full time minister and Caleb Bates was hired to fill the role of youth minister.

The church continues to experience steady growth of an active and faithful membership blessed with many talented men and women as well as a thriving youth ministry. The worship attendance averages around 130 souls each week. Today, the church is eternally grateful for the commitment of those early brethren that worked so diligently to rebuild the congregation and for laying a foundation that continues to be built upon through the blessings of our Lord.
